Frequently Asked Questions

What is counselling?

Counselling offers a confidential, supportive space where you can pause, take stock, and explore what’s happening in your life. You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out. Together, we can make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences, and gently look at what might help you feel more able to cope and move forward.

What can counselling help with?

People seek counselling for many different reasons. I work with adults experiencing things such as anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, anger, shame, the effects of trauma or abuse, and times of feeling overwhelmed or stuck.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

You might simply feel that something isn’t sitting quite right, that you’re struggling to cope, or that you keep finding yourself in familiar patterns. You don’t need to know exactly what you need help with. An initial conversation can help us think together about whether counselling may be supportive for you.

What happens in the 15 min introduction call

This short call is a calm, low‑pressure moment for us to meet, talk briefly about what’s bringing you to counselling, and get a sense of whether the fit feels supportive for you. It isn’t a counselling session — it’s simply an opportunity to explore whether my way of working aligns with what you need.

What happens next

If it feels right, we can book a first full session. If you’d prefer some time to think, that’s completely okay — you’re welcome to get in touch whenever you’re ready. And if I’m not the best match for what you’re needing, I’ll offer thoughtful signposting to someone who may be a better fit.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to counselling. We’ll explore what you’re hoping for, what feels difficult right now, and I’ll explain how I work. You’re welcome to ask anything you need. There’s no expectation to share everything straight away — we go at a pace that feels manageable for you.

How long are the sessions?

They are 50 minutes.

Where are the face to face sessions held?

They are at 1-2 Griffiths Square, First Floor, Mold CH7 1DJ. The entrance is via the Griffiths Square Car park or if walking , the cut through by Bevans Hardware shop. Unfortunately, the rooms are on the first floor with no lift at present. Sincere apologies.

How many sessions will I need?

There isn’t a set number of sessions that suits everyone. Some people find a short piece of work is enough for a particular difficulty, while others value longer-term support. We’ll regularly check in together about how things are going and whether counselling continues to feel helpful.

Do you only use one type of therapy?

No. My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on what you need. My foundation is person‑centred, and I also use approaches such as CBT, solution-focused work and EMDR. The aim is never to fit you into a model — it’s to find what genuinely supports you. You can explore integrative therapy.

Will I have to talk about my past?

Not necessarily. Some difficulties are closely linked to past experiences, while others are more about what’s happening in your life now. We can explore your past when it feels relevant and when you feel ready. You remain in control of what you choose to share.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. What you share with me is treated as confidential within the professional and legal boundaries of counselling. I will explain confidentiality clearly when we begin working together.

Can I have counselling online?

Yes. Online sessions are available where appropriate. They can be a flexible alternative to meeting in person and offer the same confidential therapeutic space from your own home.

What if I become upset during a session?

It’s completely okay to become emotional in counselling. You don’t need to apologise for crying, feeling angry, or finding something difficult to talk about. Counselling is a space where feelings can be explored safely and at your own pace.

What if I don’t know what to say?

This is very common. You don’t need to prepare or know how to explain everything. We can start wherever feels easiest and gently find our way together.

Can I stop counselling whenever I want?

Yes. Counselling is your space, and you remain in control of whether you continue or end therapy. Where possible, I encourage a final session so we can reflect on the work and bring the relationship to a thoughtful close.

How do I arrange an appointment?

If you’d like to find out more, you’re welcome to get in touch so we can talk about what you’re looking for and arrange an initial appointment. There’s no obligation to continue after making an enquiry.
